This is a procedure that is performed in the office. It involves the insertion of a small specialized catheter into the uterine cavity which then samples a piece of the lining tissue. This tissue is sent to a pathologist for evaluation. It is currently used to determine if the lining is harboring an abnormal growth or if an infection is present.

In the past this test was used to diagnose certain causes of infertility, however, for the purposes of the infertility evaluation it has been rendered obsolete in light of more modern diagnostic modalities.
