This is a test that uses ultrasound to examine the inside of the uterus (uterine cavity). It is performed between the 5th and 14th day of your cycle in our office under the direction of one of our doctors.

With this test , a small flexible catheter is placed in the uterus through which sterile saline solution is passed. An ultrasound is performed as the fluid is being passed providing a very clear image of the uterine cavity.

The increased resolution of the uterine cavity affords the ability to identify even small uterine polyps and fibroids. Fibroids and polyps that reside within the uterine cavity or just beneath the lining can be removed by a procedure called hysteroscopy.
