Monitoring refers to the assessment of your response to your treatment. It involves a trans-vaginal ultrasound and blood testing. Both are done in our office.
At the time of the ultrasound, the sonographer will check both ovaries for the presence of cysts and the development of follicles (egg containing cysts). This lets your doctor see how your ovaries appear in response to the treatment. Your uterus will also be evaluated and the thickness of the lining measured.
Blood testing usually consists of measuring your estradiol (estrogen) level. The estradiol level lets your doctor know how the ovaries are behaving in response to the treatment.
On occasion your doctor may check for additional hormones like LH and progesterone during your monitoring.
These data help your doctor assess your response to your treatment map out your plan. On any day that you monitor, you will receive a telephone call with follow up instructions.
