Ovulation induction (OI) is a process whereby a woman who has absent or infrequent ovulation is made to ovulate. Following a discussion with your physician regarding your diagnosis and recommendations for treatment, you will receive detailed instructions on carrying out your treatment plan from one of our nurse coordinators. For the most part, she will serve as your personal liaison to your physician (you will continue to communicate with your physician as well). You will be told your mediation dose and the day of your menstrual cycle that you are to begin taking it. In general, you will take the medication for 5-10 days.
However, before you start taking the medication, we require a baseline evaluation of your ovaries to confirm that you have no cysts that may negatively influence the cycle. It is not uncommon to have ovarian cysts and therefore we would ask that you call the office (202-741-2520) either the 1st, 2nd or 3rd day of your cycle to arrange for the baseline evaluation. If your period begins on a weekend, you can come to the office Monday morning (excluding holidays) between the hours of 7:00-8:00 AM for your baseline evaluation. The day of your baseline evaluation, your nurse coordinator will provide you with further instructions on starting your medications.
From this point forward, further followup is dependent upon whether you are using clomiphene citrate (CLOMID) or FSH (FOLLISTIM, GONAL F, BRAVELLE OR REPRONEX). If you will be using FSH, your nurse coordinator will provide you with injection teaching.
